A late boost for Promitheas with 29-year-old Wes Iwundu joining the Patras outfit

Wes Iwundu signed with Promitheas for the next season.

Iwundu, 29, will display his talents in the Basketball Champions League.

Following the departure of Elijah Hughes, the team based in Patras scanned the market for another winger and landed Iwundu. Other players for the team coached by Ilias Papatheodorou are Nasos Bazinas, Linos Chrysikopoulos, Javin DeLaurier, Antonis Koniaris, Angelos Lagios, Michalis Lountzis, Minas Papagiannis, Darius Perry, Nikos Plotas, Nikos Vasileiou, and KJ Williams.

Selected with the 33rd pick of the 2017 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic, the Kansas State product logged 236 appearances in the NBA, before using overseas options and joining Rasta Vechta for the 2023-24 campaign. After three years with the Magic, he split the next two seasons between the Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans, and Atlanta Hawks, Last season, he tallied 8.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.8 steals per contest over 40 appearances in Germany’s easyCredit BBL and BBL-Pokal.

His former team emerges among the opponents for Promitheas in Group D of the Regular Season in the Champions League. Besides Vechta, Galatasaray and one more team coming out of the Qualification Rounds will battle for a berth in the Round of 16.

Qualifiers

Among teams preparing for the Qualification Rounds of the BCL, Rilski Sportist picked up 20-year-old Krasing Petrov. Earlier in the offseason, Jure Planinic, Laquincy Rideau, and Jordan Session signed with the Bulgarian champions.

Fellow Qualifiers outfit, Sabah confirmed Akbar Mammadov on the 2024-25 roster.
