On a relatively balanced game between two pretty much equal teams, the home-court factor proved to be enough,
Pallacanestro Reggiana got the 77-67 win over Rytas Vilnius in the season’s first game for Basketball Champions League’s Group F.
Big man Mouhamed Faye with 15 points, eight rebounds and five blocks led a balanced effort, as the hosts led for most of the game and kept their distance in the last three minutes, after Rytas trimmed the lead to four (67-63).
Gytis Radzevicius with 14 points was the top scorer of the losing side.
“Good win, but we still need to improve”
The head coach of Reggiana, Dimitris Priftis, is pleased with the win but urges his side to improve certain areas of their game.
“It was the first game, so obviously it was a good win against a good team, and we expected a tough game, which it was. It was a team win; everybody contributed. I can’t say that we played well; there are still things we have to improve. It’s a long road, and especially in certain moments offensively, I need to see more. We need to learn to play more team basketball, with more speed. The guys from last year kept the game where it should be in terms of energy and defense,” Priftis said.
