It seems that Group E of the 2024/25 Basketball Champions League season is bound to be an interesting one, with all teams having a 1-1 record after the opening two rounds.

After Maccabi Ramat Gan defeated VEF Riga, Telekom Baskets Bonn bounced back from an opening loss to secure a convincing 93-74 win over AEK Athens at home.

The hosts were in control for most of the match, with AEK only briefly leading in the closing minutes of the third period. However, Bonn took over in the final period and quickly built an unattainable lead.

Darius McGhee led the charge for the German side with 23 points, five assists, and four rebounds, while Thomas Kennedy was on the verge of a double-double with 16 points and eight rebounds. Sam Griesel followed with 15 points, while Jonathan Bahre added 11.

C.J. Bryce stood out for AEK with 18 points, Hunter Hale followed with 14, while Prentiss Hubb scored 11 and Mindaugas Kuzminskas added 10 points.

“We can be a very good team when we play with a clear plan”

Head coach of Bonn, Roel Moors, shared his thoughts on the game at the press conference:

Very good win for us, with a point difference in the end. It was a difficult game against a tough opponent; they have a lot of individual talent. At times we struggled to contain it, but at other times we did really well, and I think we won the game with our defense, especially in the last quarter. We did a good job. When we play with a clear plan and attack who we want to attack, we can be a very good basketball team; we just need to do it for 40 minutes.
