Both Promitheas and Galatasaray needed a statement win to prove to everybody that one of those two teams could have followed ERA Nymburk in Group D. Yakup Sekizkok’s red-and-yellow team emerged victorious 79-75 from the Regular Season clash in Patras.
Last year’s BBL Regular Season MVP Otis Livingston had a solid 17-point night while also sharing 5 assists. Angel Delgado had a valuable showing under the rim with 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Jordan Walker had a standout performance against the Turkish powerhouse, leading Promitheas at home with a team-high 25 points in scoring, shooting 7/12 from the three-point range. He was followed by Wes Iwundu, who had 17 points and 5 assists.
Will Cummings, who had the highest performance for Galatasaray with 21 points tonight – but also registered 5 turnovers -, had the game-winning layup with 00:25 seconds to play in Patras.
Galatasaray held to the lead despite losing 19 times the ball over and permitting Promitheas to score 23 fast-break points as a consequence of 16 steals. The Greek team also scored 28 points off Galatasaray’s turnovers, but the Turkish team dominated the rebound battle (43 vs 25) in the paint.
To begin the Basketball Champions League action in Group D for this week, Francesco Tabellini’s ERA Nymburk stayed unbeaten on top with a 3-0 record following the 93-74 imposing victory over RASTA Vechta, still winless. Galatasaray stays behind at 2-1, leaving Promitheas in 3rd position at 1-2.
