Thanks to a solid start to the Basketball Champions League Regular Season by its backcourt duo composed of DeWayne Russell and Breein Tyree, Aliaga Petkimspor began the year on a 2-0 record.
However, moving to Unicaja Malaga’s rocking Martin Carpena Arena for their third appointment of the International campaign, they were destroyed by the reigning champions. Ibon Navarro’s team went close to displaying perfection on the court, winning 112-82 and staying unbeaten.
As it always happens with the green-and-purple Spanish side, the collective effort was huge in getting the upper hand over the Turkish team. However, Tyler Kalinoski showed off his shooting abilities, ending the night with 21 points over 5/7 from the three-point arc.
Coming off the bench, Tyson Carter contributed with 15 points and 9 assists, followed by Nihad Dedovic’s (almost) perfect shooting night from the court: 13 points over 3/3 from two and 2/4 from three. Jonathan Barreiro scored 15 points in only 18:17 minutes of playing time.
On the losing side, Aliaga Petkimspor’s usual scoring leader Breein Tyree was contained excellently by Unicaja Malaga’s defense. They prepared the perfect scouting report, as the American guard scored 10 points by shooting a poor 4/12 from the field. Jaime Echenique had 12 points and 5 rebounds.
Following this result, Unicaja Malaga remains the only unbeaten team in Group B, reaching Wurzburg, Manisa, and Nymburk, which are the other teams able to do the same this week.
