After eight years with Buducnost VOLI, including the last two as team captain, Petar Popovic moved on to FMP Soccerbet.
Popovic, 28, inked a deal for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, the Serbian club announced on Wednesday.
A veteran of 21 appearances in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 94 games played in the 7DAYS / BKT EuroCup with Buducnost, the Montenegrin combo guard will debut in the Basketball Champions League with the Panthers.
Besides multiple domestic titles in Montenegro, Popovic was part of the 2017-18 championship run in the ABA League.
The next assignment meets Filip Barna, Nikola Gasic, Ognjen Kuzmic, Stefan Lazarevic, Jovan Novak, Dusan Radosavljevic, Matic Rebec, Nikola Saranovic, Ranko Simovic, Aleksa Stanojevic, Vojislav Stojanovic, Danilo Tasic, and Bojan Tomasevic as his new teammates.
Behind a 1-2 record, the team coached by Sasa Nikitovic sits third in Group H of the BCL Regular Season at the midway point of the six-game double-legged round-robin schedule. A 3-3 tally is tied for seventh in the standings of the AdmiralBet ABA League Regular Season.
The defensive specialist has been a regular with the senior national team of Montenegro through the better part of the last decade. Appearances in major international tournaments include the 2019 and 2023 editions of the FIBA World Cup and the 2022 EuroBasket.
Before moving his talents to Buducnost in 2016, he played for Serbian Mega Leks and Greek Nea Kifisia. Lovcen 1947 was his first professional team until 2014.
