Signing with WKS Slask Wroclaw until the end of the 2024-25 season, Adam Waczynski and D.J. Cooper return to the Basketball Champions League.
After recently parting ways with Isaiah Whitehead, the Polish club picked up a new floor general in the form of Cooper, a former Ohio standout with a long career in Europe. Overseas experience includes 18 appearances in the Champions League with AS Monaco and starting for the team coached by Zvezdan Mitrovic in the championship game of the 2018 Final Four. Last season with Chorale Roanne, he averaged 10.4 points and 11.7 assists per contest in France’s Betclic Elite.
Arriving alongside the 33-year-old point guard, 35-year-old Waczynski resurfaced in his home country after spending the last ten years in Spain. The former 7DAYS EuroCup champion with Unicaja is coming off a serious knee injury forcing him to sit out the entire 2023-24 season. Previous BCL experience amounts to nine games played with BAXI Manresa during the 2022-23 campaign.
The team coached by Serbian Miodrag Rajkovic sits at the bottom of Group F of the Regular Season. An 0-3 start trails all three group rivals by two games. Heading to the bottom half of a six-game schedule, avoiding elimination is a demanding task.
After winning the Pekao S.A. Supercup of Poland in late September, the Wroclaw outfit went to the wrong end of eight out of nine games at the continental and domestic levels, including a 1-4 start in the Orlen Basket Liga.
