WKS Slask Wroclaw came to Reggio Emilia with high hopes of finally breaking its winless streak in this year’s Basketball Champions League Regular Season. Well, the result in Italy proved the opposite.
After winning in Poland, the team coached by Dimitris Priftis found another victory over the same opponents, winning 74-70 in front of its red-and-white passionate fans. It’s their second consecutive winning encounter in Group E after a stepback against Falco-Szombathely.
Cassius Winston had one of the best games since his sign with Reggio Emilia in the summer, finishing by dragging his teammates with an all-around night of 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Next to him in the starting five, Jaylen Barford contributed with 12 points and 2 steals. Coming off the bench with crucial plays down the stretch to drag his team with huge experience, Jamar Smith finished with 13 points including a perfect 3/3 from beyond the arc. Which, of course, is his specialty.
Ajdin Penava surprisingly ended up being his team’s highest scorer with 14 points off the bench. Newcomer DJ Cooper tried his best but his 6 points and 7 assists weren’t enough for the guests.
Waiting for tomorrow’s clash between Falco and Rytas Vilnius in Szombathely, Reggio Emilia can enjoy one night on top of its group. WKS Slask Wroclaw, instead, stays at the bottom with a winless 0-4 record.
