Reggio Emilia was only 1.2 seconds away in regulation from escaping with a victory against home-crowd favorites in the Twinsbet Arena, almost beating Rytas Vilnius on the road.
However, following Cassius Winston’s floating dagger of hope, Savion Flagg immediately answered, forcing overtime at 81-81. In the final extra ten minutes of the clash, the Lithuanian powerhouse emerged victorious in front of its fans by ten points (94-84).
It was a collective effort for Rytas Vilnius, as five players ended up scoring in double-digits. Jayvon Graves and the team’s captain Gytis Radzevicius dragged them with 16 points a piece.
Cassius Winston stole the show for Dimitris Priftis’ team, finishing with a personal season-high of 26 points. He also grabbed 4 rebounds and shared 6 assists for his side.
While Mouhamed Faye has been shining for the red-and-white Italian team on the board thus far in this year’s Basketball Champions League, he didn’t have his night in Vilnius.
Tonight Stephane Gombauld took his spot with a huge double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds. Kenneth Faried wasn’t available due to a blow suffered in training on the game’s eve.
