Since Ibon Navarro took over in Malaga, things have changed.

Unicaja first reached the BCL Final Four 2022-23 at home after historically winning the Copa del Rey early on the season; then, in 2023-24, Malaga won their first-ever Basketball Champions League.

Now, he reaped the benefits, extending his stay with the Spanish team until 2027.

Entering this season, Unicaja has started better than ever by winning the FIBA Intercontinental Cup and the ACB Super Cup. They’re also unbeaten in the BCL Regular Season with six consecutive victories this season, and lead the ACB standings at 13-3 alongside Valencia.

“We are very happy because Ibon is a key point in Unicaja Baloncesto’s sporting project”, Unicaja’s president Lopez Nieto commented after Ibon Navarro’s contract extension.

Before joining Malaga in 2022, Ibon Navarro was the head coach of several other Spanish teams, including Saski Baskonia (2014-15), BAXI Manresa (2015-17), UCAM Murcia (2017-18), and Andorra (2018-22). He was also the U20 Spanish national team’s head coach in 2017.
