Eager to bounce back in a best-of-three series opposite UnaHotels Reggio Emilia and extend the Basketball Champions League campaign to the Round of 16, Telekom Baskets Bonn secured the services of Rihards Lomazs for the remainder of the season.
The 28-year-old Latvian guard averaged 14.1 points, 2.9 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game over eight appearances in the 2024-25 installment of the Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi with Yukatel Merkezefendi. After completing his run with the team based in Denizli, he was officially announced as a new Bonn player on Monday afternoon and registered to the BCL squad, heading to Game 2 of the Play-Ins series against Reggio Emilia on Wednesday.
Lomazs has been featured in 41 games in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, between Virtus Segafredo Bologna in the 2023-24 season and LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne from 2019 to 2021. Earlier in his professional career, he logged 31 appearances in the Champions League and 12 in the FIBA Europe Cup with Ventspils. Also, he has been a regular with Latvia between the junior and senior national teams since 2012.
On Tuesday, BAXI Manresa reinforced the paint with 27-year-old center Jaume Sorolla, a youth product of FC Barcelona and Girona player since 2021. The newcomer is set to expand to the BCL with his new side competing for a spot in the Quarterfinals opposite La Laguna Tenerife and two more teams moving from the Play-Ins to Group K of the Round of 16.
