BCL Round of 16 Week 4 Recap: It’s a black-and-gold party

AEK and Tenerife have been two of the most recognizable teams since the birth of the Basketball Champions League back in 2016, as both sides managed to win the competition at least once.

That’s why to have them both at the BCL Quarter-Finals may be expected but at the same time a sign of continuity for the black-and-gold powerhouses, who chose different ways to be successful in the ninth edition of the Basketball Champions League.

With two games left to be played in the Round of 16, that’s the first certainty: ruling over the respective opponents in Group I and Group K, both unbeaten at 4-0, AEK and Tenerife are already through.

They managed to do so in the fourth week of this competition’s stage, respectively beating Wurzburg and Reggiana, the Greeks at home in front of a packed crowd in Athens, and the team coached by Txus Vidorreta – first to win 100 BCL games – on the road in Italy.

This week also saw the first two eliminated teams from contending for a spot in the BCL Quarter-Finals: Promitheas Patras in Group I and Falco Szombathely in Group L.
