Until this season, there hadn’t been Italian teams qualifying for the Basketball Champions League Quarter-Finals since 2019, when Virtus Bologna eventually won the competition.
In a matter of two days, two teams from the country managed to clinch spots in the BCL Quarter-Finals: Pallacanestro Reggiana, which qualified from Group K, and Bertram Derthona, from Group I.
The black-and-white side did it by winning 80-74 the head-to-head confrontation with Wurzburg Baskets, which lost a crucial game last week against Promitheas Patras and Jordan Walker’s 54 points.
Derthona was dragged by a collective effort from Walter De Raffaele’s players, as five elements finished scoring in double-digits.
Ismael Kamagate had a perfect shooting night (5/5), concluding with 15 points and 7 rebounds. As it has usually happened this season, Christian Vital had 13 points to help the team.
The Germans heavily relied on Jhivvan Jackson, who scored a game-high 31 points in Wurzburg’s loss.
