Dziki Warszawa opened its Basketball Champions League Qualification Round campaign with an offensive showcase in Samokov and moved one step closer to the Regular Season.
The Polish team pulled away after halftime to defeat BK Opava 116-99 and book a place in the quarterfinals of Qualification Round Tournament 2.
Austin Luke led the winners with 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including four three-pointers. Joseph Girard III added 18 points and seven assists, while Osun Osunniyi finished with 16 points, five rebounds and a game-high efficiency rating of 23. Zane Waterman posted 14 points and ten rebounds, as Dziki shot 60 percent from the field and had seven players in double figures.
Jakub Sirina paced Opava with 22 points, while Jan Svandrlik scored 19 and hit five three-pointers. Elijah Tucker and Bo Montgomery contributed 16 points apiece.
Dziki Warszawa will face VEF Riga in the quarterfinals on September 17, after Latvian side beat LANDAU Lions.
Breogan to face Manchester in quarterfinals
Rio Breogan made a dominant start to the Basketball Champions League Qualification Round Tournament in Samokov, delivering an offensive masterclass against host Rilski Sportist. The Spanish side led from start to finish and cruised to a 126-80 victory, earning a place in the quarterfinals.
Luis Casimiro’s team finished with 23 three-pointers on 36 attempts, 29 assists and seven players in double figures. Francis Alonso and Danko Brankovic led the winners with 19 points apiece, with Brankovic shooting a perfect 8-of-8 from the field. Dominik Mavra added 16 points and 13 assists, while Tevin Brown also scored 16.
Aleksandar Aranitovic contributed 12 points and Mihajlo Andric nine. Alan Arnett paced Rilski with 16 points, followed by Isaiah Richards with 14.
Breogan will face Manchester Basketball in the quarterfinals after the British team survived a late comeback by Fitness First Wurzburg Baskets to claim a dramatic 74-73 victory in Samokov.
Wurzburg erased a 16-point deficit and moved ahead 73-72 when Sam Griffin split two free throws with 13 seconds remaining. Luke Nelson then drew a foul and made both attempts with four seconds left to restore Manchester’s lead, before Griffin missed a potential game-winning floater at the other end.
Keon Thompson led Manchester with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Jordan Johnson and Chandler Pigge scored 12 apiece and Nelson added 11. Griffin finished with a game-high 26 points for Wurzburg, including six three-pointers.
Only the winner of the tournament in Samokov will earn a spot in Group F of the BCL Regular Season alongside Hapoel Holon, Cholet and Spartak Office Shoes.
