As Italian club Varese announced, the Basketball champions league format changed. The competition will included 40 teams in five groups.
The newcomers are expected to be Sassari from Italy, AEK from Athens, Zielona Gora from Poland and Partizan from Serbia. According to Varese there will be only one qualifying round, so it remains to be seen which of the new four teams will be included directly in the regular season and which will be part of the qualifying round.
According to the previous format the competition will start on 27 September 2016 with the qualifying round and the regular season starts at the 20th of October.
