While the game was slow paced and tight, it was meant to be significant, as Tenerife became the first Basketball Champions League champion, after beating Banvit with 63-59.
Marius Grigonis was the leading scorer for the champions with 18 points and got the MVP award, as Jordan Theodore added 17 for the opposing team.
The hosts of the Final Four, Tenerife, were in control of the game in its entirety, with a brief 51-46 advantage after 30 minutes, a showcase of said slow pace.
However, the hosts’ efficiency from the 3-point line was enough to keep them ahead, even when Banvit trimmed the deficit to 4 points at 34′.
The game then became a derby with less than 2 minutes left, as the Turkish team approached even closer. Davin White gave Tenerife some room to breath with a long distance shot and it was not enough.
The hosts got what they wanted and the fans chanted not only their name, but also the name of their opponents in a great fairplay exhibition.
