Bryon Allen is the man in Oldenburg. His aim: winning the Basketball Champions League

The Basketball Champions League is more than competitive. No team refuses to lose a game, everyone has a fighting chance and this turns each match into a battle.

One of the players that learned last season how difficult is winning in this competition is Bryon Allen. As he said to Eurohoops, “winning is tough, winning is very tough“.

Bryon’s performances were outstanding last season, but the start of the new one with EWE Baskets Oldenburg made him a name in the competition. He is averaging almost 18 points per game, along with 3,4 rebounds and 3 assists in his first 5 games (he also was the MVP in Week 3).

I knew that my success would come. But it’s still early I just wanna keep improving keep been the best I can be as a player. Let’s keep doing what I have to do for the team to win. That’s all that really matters,” Allen said.

So, what has Bryon Allen in mind for this season?

I feel like we have high goals. I wanna win the Champions League, I wanna win the BBL. I just wanna be the best I can be and do what I have to do for my team to win. That’s my job. If it takes me scoring 30 points, I’ll do it. If it takes 0 points but 10 assists, I’ll do it. 0 points and 10 rebounds, or guarding the best player on the opposing team. I just wanna win“.

Oldenburg could be one of the good news in the competition. At this point, they are entertaining their fans with one of the most fun-to-watch styles. The German “Warriors” beat a record scoring 20 three-pointers against UCAM Murcia.

I know we shoot a lot of threes. We all put that hard work and time and dedication working on our jump shot, working on our craft. I feel like we are all confident on each other on our game and I think we are one best team to watch. Scoring for our team comes pretty easy“.

As a Champions League “veteran”, the American point-guard is leading EWE Baskets Oldenburg after been part of CEZ Nymburk last season. That team included well-known names as Jiri Welsch or Diamon Simpson, but they struggled against Sassari after a great group stage.

We made up the group what was obviously the most important goal for us. We lost in the first round by one point difference but it was a great experience. It was the first time for me playing multiple games a week, traveling from different country to country playing games. It was exciting“.

We can consider him a globetrotter (he has played at Poland, Kuwait, Italy, Czech Republic, Germany) but it seems that it’s in Europe where he is enjoying basketball: “It’s a great experience to see all parts of the world that you never thought to see all because of basketball.  It’s funny as well because you meet players you grew up with or played against“.

But attending to his words we could think that his objectives as a player are high. He played for the Sixers in the Summer League and that could be a clue…

Everybody wants to be at the highest level but it’s tough. I’m still not at the top level where I think I deserve to be, but it’s God’s plan. I’m taking the one day and time to take full advantage of my opportunity. It is a process, you can’t rush the process“.
