Hapoel Holon grabbed their second victory in the Basketball Champions League as they beat EWE Baskets Oldenburg at home with 94-90. The host was trailing by 12 but was able to make a comeback thanks to Corey Walden, who scored 31 points.
The Key: Guy Pnini came in with a few clutch performances from the three-point line in the last quarter.
After a high-paced first half, the visiting squad had a 47-45 lead. Hapoel made a strong 10-0 run in the beginning of the second quarter, but Oldenburg made a counter-attack as they on overtook the lead.
Oldenburg used halftime break to regain energy as they were completely in charge in the third quarter with a partial score of 27-16.
The home squad bounced back in the last quarter with a 13-2 run, while with 5:30 minutes left on the clock, the score was tied to 75-75. Hapoel kept the momentum as they had more focus down the last stretch making a complete comeback.
The Star: Who else than Walden? He finished the game with 31 points and 0 turnovers in 38 minutes on the floor. Tamir Blatt had a big impact on Hapoel’s win as he dished no less than 13 assists.
Not enough: Maxime De Zeeuw gave his best for Oldenburg as he scored 26 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Hapoel now stands at a 2-5 record and Oldenburg fell to a 4-3.
