An offensive festival in the first half by CEZ Nymburk propelled them to the fourth victory in the Basketball Champions League as they prevailed over Stelmet Zielona Gora on the road 88-82.
The Key: Run, run, run. The visiting squad run over their opponent in the first half as they outscored them 18-2 in the fast break points giving them a confidence boost.
The visitors showed their intentions right from the start as they opened the game with a quick 9-3 run winning the first quarter in style 30-23. They caught fire early shooting 11-of-17 from the field in that period.
They didn’t stop in the second quarter as they built a comfortable lead after the first half 55-45. The hosts used the halftime break to pull together as they found a way to slow down Nymburk in the third quarter. They won that period 22-16 cutting the lead to 71-67 before the last ten minutes.
Unfortunately for the home fans, Zielona Gora didn’t have any gas left in the last quarter as they weren’t able to complete a comeback.
The Star: The 35-years-old Petr Benda was like an old fine wine for Nymburk as he scored game-high 22 points. Benda was scoring for the winners and Eugene Lawrence was delivering as he had 8 assists and 9 points as well.
Once again Vladimir Dragicevic was the highest scorer for Zielona Gora as he finished the game with 17 points.
CEZ Nymburk now moved up to a 4-3 record as Zielona Gora fall to a 2-5.
