Sidigas Avellino defeated Besiktas Sompo Japan 90 – 74 after a huge game at home. The Italians improved to a 4-4 record while Besiktas ended its winning streak and fell to 6-2 in Basketball Champions League.
Avellino took an 8-point lead in the first quarter (22 – 14) with Kyrylo Fesenko stopping Besiktas’ offense and finishing the game with 6 blocks. Thanks to Ariel Filloy, who made the game-winner in the first game of the season between the two teams, the hosts kept a double-digit advantage at the half (40 – 30).
The Italians continued increasing the lead during the third and fourth quarter thanks to a great offensive performance.
The key: 29 buckets came off assist for Avellino while just 10 for the guests.
The star: Filloy led the winners once again with 20 points and 6 assists. Jason Rich contributed with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists while captain Maarten Leunen added 13 points and 9 assists.
Earl Clark finished with 16 points but just 4-of-14 shooting.
