EWE Baskets Oldenburg prevailed over Juventus 77 – 73 in Utena to improve to an 8-5 record. The visiting team is already in the Round of 16 while the Lithuanians (4-10) are one victory away from the FIBA Europe Cup spots.
The key: After three consecutive offensive rebounds, Rickey Paulding scored 2-of-2 from the stripe (72 – 71, 39′). Arvydas Siksnius responded with a jump shot but Philipp Schwethelm made a clutch three to take back the lead with 50 seconds left. A tough call on LaRon Dendy and a couple of free throws sentenced the game.
Paulding had a breakout start scoring the first 12 points for Oldenburg. Surprisingly, the Germans improved when his captain stopped scoring and they took a 39 – 31 lead at the break.
The hosts had an incredible reaction and they were in the lead with one quarter remaining (56 – 57).
The star: Paulding led all scorers with 27 and he also grabbed 7 rebounds to contribute to the victory. Armani Moore added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals.
Arvydas Siksnius finished with 17 points for Juventus
