Sigidas Avellino needed to win this game to stay alive in the playoff race and were able to beat Aris 78-66 at home. With this loss, the Greek team now lost all the chances for the next round.
The visiting side won the first ten minutes 25-21, but that was all they could do tonight.
The Key: It was the second quarter that was crucial tonight. The hosts focused on defense in that period and their opponents had a hard time going to the basket. Avellino allowed only 8 points in the second quarter and was the key.
The Star: Hamady N’Diaye’s double-double was a big factor for Avellino’s victory tonight. N’Diaye had 11 points and 11 rebounds as he missed only one shot from the field (5/6).
Ivan Maras’s game-high 19 points and 5 boards for Aris were not enough to stop Avellino tonight.
Avellino moved up to a 6-7 record while Aris suffered the fifth straight loss that pushed them to a 4-9 record.
