We’ve come up with Gameday 13 Team of the Week that is certain to meet your approval.
Zack Wright, Guard
A third triple-double in Basketball Champions League history was tantalizingly close for Wright, who for the second straight week made sure a SIG Strasbourg guard is on the Team of the Week (last week it was Dee Bost). Wright, had 15 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds to help fire his club to a 98-81 victory over Rosa Radom in France. Wright ended up with a +35 efficiency.
Gabe York, Guard
York has had some big games this season, but Wednesday’s 24-point, 5-assist and 5-rebound effort was crucial as it helped medi Bayreuth defeat Umana Reyer Venezia, 89-81. The win lifted the German club into second place in Group C. York continued his fine shooting from long range, making four to take his Regular Season tally in the Basketball Champions League to 38 in 13 games. He is averaging 17.3 points per game, which ranks fifth overall in the competition. Seven times York has poured in 20 or more points.
Phillip Alexander Goss Jr, Guard
If an award were to go to the best mid-season signing, Goss would be a leading contender to win it. He set the tone for PAOK on Wednesday with 19 points in the first half and 29 overall in their 91-70 triumph over Neptunas Klaipeda in Thessaloniki, Greece. In a game they had to win to stay in the hunt for a spot in the Round of 16, Goss made sure there was only going to be one result. He made 10 of 13 shots from the field, including 5 of 6 from deep, and also came up with 3 steals.
Goran Suton, Forward
Suton picked a good time to have his best game for Estudiantes. The veteran scored 25 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, came up with a steal and swatted a shot as the Madrid club knocked off Group C leaders Banvit, 78-73. With Banvit threatening in the fourth quarter to complete a comeback after trailing by 26, the 32-year-old Suton intervened and scored 11 of his points. He ended up burying 5 of 8 shots from behind the arc and walked off the court with a sparkling +34 efficiency.
Vince Hunter, Center
All it took was one game for Hunter in an AEK jersey to claim a spot on the Team of the Week. An athletic, rim-rocking big man who appeared on his fair share of highlight-reel plays last season with Avtodor Saratov, Hunter has joined the Greek club with the aim of getting them into the Basketball Champions League Round of 16 and thanks largely to his performance on Tuesday in an 80-71 victory at Petro Olimpija, they’ve got a chance. Hunter made 8 of 10 shots from the floor and finished with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 2 block and 2 steals.
