Μedi Bayreuth emerged victorious in the first of the two quarterfinal meetings against fellow German-league competitor MHP Riesen with 86-81 on the road.
Gabe York led the winning side with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists, while he was the one to turn the tables of the game in the end. With 23 seconds to go, York grabbed a steal and fired from the three-point line, giving the visitors the upper hand of the game.
His performance was complemented by James Robinson’s 14 points, while Assem Marei and De’Mon Brooks shared 13 points each.
Thomas Walkup finished with 19 points for the hosts, though his attempts in the final period fell to no avail, as Bayreuth worked methodically in order to reach the win, with a partial 24-point outbreak in the fourth quarter.
Now the two teams will meet in Bayreuth’s house, as John Patrick’s team holds a clear advantage for the semifinals.
