MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg will have a chance to fight for a Basketball Champions Leauge trophy after beating medi Bayreuth 89-77 on the road clinching their Final Four spot.
Ludwigsburg needed to erase a five-point deficit from the first game with which they lost at home (86-81). It looked like that will be very difficult as Bayreuth was off to a good start. Nate Linhart made the crowd go wild by hitting a triple that pushed Bayreuth up by 8 points (16-8) midway through the first quarter. However, the visiting squad bounced back quickly as the teams were tied at 20 after the initial 10 minutes of the game.
When it mattered the most, Ludwigsburg’s defense was on the high note. They were forcing turnover over turnover as they were able to take an 11 points lead with 4 minutes reaming (82-71). They held onto that lead until the end, reaching a triumphant victory by winning the last quarter 27-17.
It was a great defense and team effort on offense that pushed Ludwigsburg to the Final Four. Five players scored in double-digits for the winning side as Kerron Johnson was leading the chart with 16 points. followed by Justin Sears’ 15 points.
James Robinson had a game-high 19 points for Bayreuth, but that wasn’t enough for the Final Four.
