After his meeting with Patrick Baumann in Athens, Dimitris Giannakopoulos addressed both the EuroLeague and the Basketball Champions League.

“When you see that something has failed, you have to examine every possibility, for Panathinaikos to play in a competition worthy of its fans”, the Greens’ owner mentioned.

“EuroLeague has failed, everyone can see that”, he continued. “There has been contracting with other teams, though I doubt if they have all read today’s announcement. I want us to be part of a respectful competition.”

As for the possibility of Panathinaikos joining BCL, Giannakopoulos commented: “BCL exists for three years and has already taken big steps forward. With Panathinaikos’ presence, I think that the competition will grow even faster.”

However, the decision isn’t still final.

“It will be final when we join and sign a contract. For this to change, management has to changes and teams will have to review things. We’ve already planned our meetings with the teams in Belgrade.” Meanwhile, Giannakopoulos relation with the EuroLeague and the other team club who are the main core of the competition are at an all-time worst.
