Cantu has been a traditional basketball powerhouse in Italy and since 2015 the club belongs to Russian businessman Dmitry Gerasimenko (photo).
This season, the team wanted to turn the page by signing Russian coach Evgeny Pashutin. The pre-season has already started for the team, but money is owned to five former US players.
Randy Culpepper, Jeremy Chappell, Jaime Smith, Perry Ellis and Christian Burns have stated in social media that they have not been paid in full yet for last season.
Culpepper made the start with the following tweet and the rest of them followed. The question at this point is if those players will turn to BAT, FIBA’s court for debts to players, which can block the ability of the club to do transfers.
Come on now @PallCantu I’ve literally been waiting the entire summer to receive the rest of my salary. You all have signed a new coaching staff and a whole roster. How is this even possible if you’re in debt from the previous year. Makes 0 sense to me ??♂️
