Polski Cukier Torun managed to overcome the deficit from Game 1 (68-60) against Movistar Estudiantes with an 84-69 win and advance to Qualification Round 3 of Basketball Champions League by a total aggregate of 144-137. They will clash against medi Bayreuth in the next round.
Although Estudiantes had a small advantage after the first ten minutes (23-21), Torun took over the control in the second period and went on the halftime break with a 47-39 lead.
The second half was full of ups and downs but the Polish team made an 11-2 run early in the fourth quarter which put them ahead by a 17-point margin. Estudiantes tried to force a comeback but couldn’t change the final outcome in the end.
Karol Gruszecki scored game-high 22 points in addition to Krzysztof Sulima’s 13 and Cheikh Mbodj’s 14 points. On the other hand, Zoltan Perl tried to keep Estudiantes alive with 19 points while Nik Caner-Medley added 15.
