Despite many ups and downs, Besiktas Sompo Japan kept the control when it was most important and recorded a 78-70 road win against medi Bayreuth at the Basketball Champions League opening.
The Turkish team started off the match strong with a 12-2 run but Bayreuth answered with 14 straight points (16-12). The fight stayed fairly balanced as Besiktas went on the halftime break with a minimal advantage (39-38).
Although Besiktas had an upper hand throughout the second half, the hosts managed to keep close (68-66) with three minutes left but they couldn’t keep up any longer. Besiktas banked eight straight points (76-66) creating enough space to secure the win.
Robin Benzing led the victors with game-high 20 points while Ivan Buva helped with 16. On the other side, Hassan Martin scored 14 points.
