Tyrese Rice ‘banked’ 33 points for Brose Bamberg but it wasn’t enough as Montakit Fuenlabrada won 89-88 with an amazing buzzer-beater three by Francisco Cruz in Group C of Basketball Champions League.
In a thrilling finish, Bamberg had an 88-85 lead with four seconds left but the hero of the night for Fuenlabrada, Cruz, stepped on the free throw line. He made the first and missed the second. Bamberg’s Augustine Rubit sent the ball out of bounds giving Fuenlabrada one last possession and Cruz sent it ‘flying’ over none other than Rice sealing the deal.
Except for the early 18-8 lead for Fuenlabrada, the majority of the game was fairly balanced. In fact, it was a tie at the halftime (44-44) and eventually a tie at 72 bringing the game to an exciting finish.
For Fuenlabrada, Francisco Cruz had 22 points while Talib Zanna helped with 19.
Rice also dished eight assists to his teammates and made three rebounds. Augustine Rubit scored 16 points while Nikos Zisis helped with 10.
