Miha Lapornik tried to steal the game at the buzzer, but he missed the three-pointer and Promitheas Patras got the 79-77 win over Petrol Olimpija Ljubljana, remaining unbeaten in the Group D of the Basketball Champions League.
It was the historic first home game for the Greeks in any European competition and the tension was obvious. Promitheas got a 78-74 lead with a little less than four minutes left on the game and in the remaining time scored just one free throw, nine seconds before the final buzzer, giving the Slovenians the change to steal the win.
In the end, Promitheas got a 2-0 record with Oleksandr Lypovyy scoring 17 points and Tony Meier adding 15. Scottie Reynolds and Lapornik scored 15 points each for the guests.
