Aaron Johnson recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 assists leading Ventspils to a comeback and a 93-92 overtime win against MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in Basketball Champions League.
Ludwigsburg held an 84-81 lead with 14 seconds remaining but Ventspils’ Rihards Lomazs banked a triple for the overtime. The hosts started the extra time with a 6-0 run which was enough to secure a narrow win in the end.
Johnson got help from Maris Gulbis who scored 19 points while Lomazs added 16. Jonathan Arledge flirted with a double-double as he notched 18 points and nine rebounds.
For Ludwigsburg, Malcolm Hill scored 19 in addition to Adam Waleskowski’s 17 points.
Ludwigsburg had a 23-17 lead after ten minutes and kept the upper hand until halftime (49-40). However, the hosts started the second half with an 8-0 run eventually taking over the lead (56-55) and bringing the game to an interesting finish.
Ventspils improved to 2-3 record in Group A while this was Ludwigsburg’s ten straight loss in all competitions, five of those in BCL (0-5).
