Numerous players excelled but only five were chosen in the Team of the Week. On this week’s list: Khalif Wyatt, Pietro Aradori, Linos Chrysikopoulos, Hassan Martin and Augustine Rubit.
Khalif Wyatt, Guard
He can shoot, he break down opponents off the dribble and he can pass. Wyatt is so good at times that it’s as if he’s a one-man wrecking crew. On Gameday 7, he led UNET Holon past hosts Nanterre, 82-70 . The American guard finished with a league best +35 efficiency after pouring in 28 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the floor, including 6 of 8 from deep and 4 of 5 at the free-throw line. Wyatt also had 7 assists, a couple of steals and a mesmerizing behind-the-back dribble on a drive that turned out to be No. 1 on the Top 5 Plays for Wednesday.
Pietro Aradori, Guard
Bravissimo! The Italy international scored a season-high 23 points, hitting 4 of 6 3-balls in the process to fire Segafredo Virtus Bologna to a 95-85 triumph over a Promitheus side that has been among the best in the competition this season. Aradori led the way as Virtus became the first team in BCL history to win its first seven games. He also had 3 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a +25 efficiency.
Linos Chrysikopoulos, Forward
The PAOK punisher was, in a word, SENSATIONAL as the Greeks claimed the famous scalp of previously unbeaten and former champions Iberostar Tenerife with a 66-65 victory in La Hamburguesa. The 25-year-old Chrysikopoulos had the “wow” factor for every single one of his 29 minutes, connecting on 6 of his 7 shots from behind the arc and finishing with 24 points. Chrysikopoulos also had 5 rebounds, a steal and a +25 efficiency as the Thessaloniki club prevailed for the fourth consecutive time in the competition after opening the campaign with three defeats. His previous high in points this season had been 19 in a Gameday 2 defeat to Bonn. No wonder Chrysikopoulos has been named in Greece’s latest squad for the European Qualifiers.
Hassan Martin, Forward
The 23-year-old Martin, a load of power and panache, had his season-high 19 points on a perfect 8 of 8 shooting from the floor and 3 of 4 at the charity stripe as medi Bayreuth thrashed an out-of-sorts Neptunas, 102-78. Martin, who stands 2.01m (6ft 7in) in height, also corralled 9 rebounds, handed out an assist and came up with 3 steals as the German club won for the third time in a row in the BCL.
Augustine Rubit, Forward
The powerful 29-year-old American became the latest Brose Bamberg player to make the Team of the Week after a 22-point, 6-rebound, 3-assist and 5-steal night in a hard-fought 84-78 win at CEZ Nymburk. Rubit had three of his steals in the fourth quarter. He had a late game-tying basket, making it 75-75 with 2:30 remaining, and shortly after assisted Elias Harris on the lay-up with 1:58 remaining that put Bamberg in front to stay. He drilled 4 free-throws in the last 1:30 to help seal the victory, Bamberg’s fourth of the season.
