Anwil grabbed an early lead and didn’t let go until the end as they won 84-71 against Ventspils on Day 8 of Basketball Champions League. Anwil now stands at 4-4 while Ventspils has a 3-5 record in Group A.
Aaron Broussard scored 12 points for the victors in addition to Valerii Likhodei, Szymon Szewczyk, and Jaroslaw Zyskowski’s 11 points each.
For Ventspils, Ingus Jakovics nailed game-high 21 points while Aaron Johnson notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.
Anwil took the first quarter by storm (23-9) and stayed ahead in double-digits until halftime (43-33). They kept going after the break and had a 63-44 lead in front of the final period. Ventspils managed to soften the blow near the end (81-71) but were nowhere close to threatening the final outcome.
