The teams had a two-week break during the holidays but that was just ‘the calm before the storm’ as the squads put on everything they have in the final phase of the regular season and aim for the Basketball Champions League playoffs.
Four teams are already there as they secured a spot with four rounds remaining. The first one to do it was Iberostar Tenerife in Group B after warding off Fribourg Olympic.
Although AEK’s eight-game winning streak in Group C was stopped by Bamberg, the ‘Queen’ still clinched a playoff spot thanks to Dijon’s win over desperate Fuenlabrada (seven losses in a row). Amar’e Stoudemire’s Hapoel Yahav Bank Jerusalem didn’t fall behind either as they grabbed a playoff ticket with a convincing win over Telenet Giants Antwerp.
Last but not least, UCAM Murcia fought for its place in the playoffs against Nizhny Novgorod and it really ‘came down to the wire’ in the final clash of Group A and Gameday 10. The sides needed two overtimes in order to decide the victor and in the end, it was the Spanish team.
