James Feldeine and J’Covan Brown pushed Hapoel Jerusalem through a second-half crisis and gave them a 75-73 home win over Tenerife in Game 1 of Basketball Champions League quarterfinals.
Brown nailed 20 points including the two free throws with a second left on the clock to hand his team the win. Feldeine followed with 18 points while Amar’e Stoudemire added 13 points and Tamir Blatt dished game-high nine assists.
For Tenerife, Colton Iverson banked game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds while Tim Abromaitis added 16 points.
Hapoel had an upper hand from the start as their offense led the way with J’Covan Brown nailing 13 points in the first half and igniting an 8-0 run in the second quarter as they went on the halftime rest with a 45-36 advantage.
Tenerife completely took over after the break with a 17-0 run led by Iverson and Abromaitis as the hosts had to wait six minutes for their first points in the second half and trailed 59-55 in front of the final ten minutes. Tenerife was holding on but Hapoel bounced back thanks to Feldeine and Brown’s triples with the latter also deciding the game with free throws.
