The game was balanced for 32 minutes but Nanterre made a crucial run in the fourth quarter and grabbed an 83-75 home win against Segafredo Virtus Bologna in Game 1 of Basketball Champions League quarterfinals.
Jeremy Senglin led the winning side with 16 points followed by Haukur Palsson’s 14 while Julian Gamble notched a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.
For Bologna, Kevin Punter scored 15 in addition to Tony Taylor and Amath M’Baye’s 11 points each.
Except for Nanterre’s early 12-5 lead, neither team could gain a bigger advantage than five points and the game was completely balanced. The hosts were up 40-39 at halftime and the sides were tied at 62 early in the fourth. However, Hugo Invernizzi’s triple sparked the French team’s 11-2 run out of which Gamble banked seven points. They went ahead 73-64 and Bologna – which also ended up in foul trouble – couldn’t recover from that blow.
