AEK is gunning to add Greek players after handing Ilias Papatheodorou the head-coaching job with Nikos Gikas emerging as the first domestic summer signing. The 28-year-old Greek point guard will ink a three-year (2+1) contract with an option for the 2021-22 season, according to Eurohoops sources.
Gikas is coming off three campaigns with Promitheas. Last season he debuted in European club competitions helping the Patras’ side advance to the Basketball Champions League Playoffs with 8.9 points, 4.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds per contest.
In the Greek Basket League, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s former teammate at Filathlitikos averaged 5.1 points, 3.8 assists and 2 rebounds per Regular Season and followed up with 4.9 points, 4 assists and 1.4 rebounds in ten Playoffs appearances.
