Peristeri winmasters fell in a 16-point hole, but recovered timely and ultimately defeated Gaziantep, 70-64, in Basketball Champions League Regular Season Group C opening week action.
Tuesday’s Gameday 1 game at the Sahinbey Karatas Spor Salonu featured a 30-minute delay due to a shot clock malfunction a few seconds in the contest. The situation affected Ilias Zouros’s club with the hosts jumping to a 10-0 lead and a 16-point advantage later in the first period.
Peristeri completed the comeback claiming the lead in the second half. Steven Gray went for a team-high 15 points including four threes and Scoochie Smith ended up with 13 points.
The home side could not hold on to its significant advantage despite Drew Crawford’s game-high 16 points. Jamelle Hagins finished with 11 points, Stevan Jelovac also scored 11 all from the free throw line.
After a 15-years wait, the Greek team returned to the European club competition level with a victory on the road securing the 1-0 BCL W-L tally. Nenad Markovic’s club fell to 0-1.
