Besiktas Sompo Sigorta made a big comeback in the second half but Casademont Zaragoza still got away with a 74-73 road win in Group D of Basketball Champions League. Both teams now hold a 1-1 record.
Zaragoza had a 72-71 lead with ten seconds left but James McAdoo banked a putback – after Jordan Theodore missed two free throws – putting Besiktas ahead (73-72). However, D.J. Seeley got fouled on the last possession (0.4 seconds left) and scored two out of three free throws – missed the last one in purpose – giving his squad the win.
Seeley finished the game with 16 points followed by Nemanja Radovic with 14 points although all of it came in the first half. Nicolas Brussino added 13 points.
For Besiktas, Shaquielle McKissic and McAdoo were making things happen with 18 points each while the latter also grabbed 12 rebounds.
Zaragoza came out strong early as they went ahead 17-3 very fast and kept the distance until halftime (43-30). However, the hosts cut the gap to six points (54-48) in the third and eventually took the lead (58-56) for the first time in the fourth quarter.
The Spaniards managed to recover answering with six straight points (62-56) and eventually survived the very close finish in the last seconds.
