Peristeri winmasters made it to the Santiago Martin Arena of San Cristobal de La Laguna undefeated in all competitions, but Iberostar Tenerife locked down Ilias Zouros’ players for the 72-68 victory in Basketball Champions League Regular Season Round 3 action.
The hosts needed some clutch buckets from Dani Diez to overcome the opponents late comeback attempt. The 26-year-old Spaniard forward ended up with a team-high 16 points.
In-form Giorgi Shermadini was already averaging 21.5 points per BCL appearance this season, added 11 more points on Tuesday, grabbed seven rebounds as well. Marcelinho Huertas and Sasu Salin contributed to the win with 10 points each.
Tenerife struggled beyond the arc ending up with 9/28 threes, but strong defensive effort throughout the match did not let Peristeri take advantage of their long shot woes. The win brought Txus Vidorreta’s club to 3-0 and sent the Greek side to 2-1 in Group C.
Steven Gray put up a game-high 26 points behind 8/14 from the field in losing effort. Will Hatcher had 13 points and Kingsley Moses finished with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
