In 1998, Virtus Bologna won its first European Championship title by beating AEK Athens in the Final.
The Ettore Messina-coached Bologna, led by Zoran Savic (the Final Four MVP) and featuring such players as Sasha Danilovic and Antoine Rigaudeau prevailed over AEK in a tough, defensive battle.
