Jorge Garbajosa officially retained his role as the Spanish Basketball Federation president, FEB announced Monday. He was the only candidate for the 2020-2024 term, the federation previously clarified.
The press release notes that the former player, appointed FEB president in 2016, gained 92% of the votes, 66 out of 72. The six remaining were blank votes.
“The support obtained this morning excites me,” stated Garbajosa, “I take it as an endorsement of four years of work. We had success, but also made mistakes. Nevertheless, I believe the federation is in a better place than four years ago. And that means basketball is better.”
“We are going through a tough situation, but we are determined to prevent basketball from losing ground,” he added moving on to the future, “I believe we will continue to lead Spanish sports and international basketball after the pandemic. We had meetings at every level realizing that satisfactory progress is being made.”
