After starting an investigation on recent allegations regarding systemic sexual harassment within the Mali Basketball Federation, FIBA also secured protection for the players of the U19 and U16 Mali’s women teams who will participate in competitions this summer.

Per FIBA:

FIBA has taken numerous steps since receiving several allegations about systemic sexual harassment within the Mali Basketball Federation, including the protection of witnesses, as part of the investigation opened by the independent Integrity Officer.

Further to those actions, FIBA has entered into a partnership with Terre des hommes (Tdh) to immediately establish a safeguard and protection service for the players of the U19 and U16 women’s teams from Mali, who will be competing in international events this summer, whilst the investigation from the independent Integrity Officer is ongoing. Besides appropriate protection, psychological and legal support of these players through its existing representative office in Mali, Tdh will also create appropriate channels to report allegations of abuse in Mali.
