2022 was an incredible year for Spain, as Sergio Scariolo’s team upset the competition to go all the way to the EuroBasket gold. But 2023 could be even better, marking the 100th anniversary of the Spanish basketball federation.
This morning, they presented the newly black-and-gold kit to celebrate their centenary on the year of the FIBA World Cup in Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines. For the first time ever, Spain began the year on top of the FIBA Ranking.
“For us, it could be a moment of complacency, but we want to look to the future. In our past there are so many people and estates that have worked in our past, in the collective memory of Spanish basketball”, the President of the Spanish basketball federation Jorge Garbajosa said.
“And when it seemed that the best male and female generation was leaving the courts, not only did it not make us fall into that valley, but we are at the best moment in our history, and we are number 1 in the FIBA Ranking in the men’s category and the best European team in the women’s”, he added.
