Officially announced on social media, the experienced Montenegrin head coach Dejan Radonjic has been appointed as the newest leader on the bench of Bahcesehir, marking his first experience with a Turkish team.
Without a head coaching position since last summer, the 53-year-old head coach last led Panathinaikos in the 2022-23 season. Previously, he had two successful stints at Crvena Zvezda (2013-17 and 2020-22), while he coached Bayern Munich from 2018 to 2020.
He began his head coaching career with Buducnost, where he stayed from 2006 to 2013 – and played as a playmaker during his 14-year professional career -, and became Montenegro’s national team technical commissioner in 2011-12.
So far this season, the 2021-22 FIBA Europe Cup champions are killing it in the same European competition, starting the year with a 5-1 record in Group D and now standing on top of Group L – with Legia Warszawa, Sporting CP, and Jonava CBet – in the Second Round with a 2-0 record.
In the Turkish domestic league, instead, where Dejan Radonjic has never coached before, Bahcesehir is 8th at a 6-7 record, tied with Petkim Spor, Tofas Bursa, Buyukcekmece, Turk Telekom Ankara, and Darussafaka. Bursaspor and Manisa are only one victory away, 5th and 6th at a 7-6 record.
