The countdown for the presentation of the FIBA Champions League has started and as the Greek league (HEBA) announced, the league council decided today that the Greek teams will play in the competition and HEBA will be shareholder in the new “NewCo FIBA” company.
This is the company created by FIBA which will organise and govern the Basketball Champions League and it will be legally established in Mies, Switzerland on the 2nd of March. However according to “Gazzetta Dello Sport” the Italian league informed its clubs that they will have to pay each 273 euros in order to pay the 4.381 euros fee in order to buy shares and at least eight clubs are opposing this decision. The issue is not the money but the fact that the teams – or at least a part of them – were not asked about this season.
No Greek club has yet taken a stance on the matter, however Olympiacos and Panathinaikos have a 10-year contract with Euroleague while PAOK, Aris and AEK are expected to play in the FIBA Champions League.
