FIBA decided that the winner of the FIBA Europe Cup and not of the Euroleague will represent Europe in the Intercontintal cup final and Guaros de Lara took advantage of their chance.
The club from Venezuela beat Fraport Skyliners, the hosts of the event, by five points (74-69) in a game which despite its lofty title had only local interest. Zachary Graham with 19 points was the MVP and Damion James with 17 led the Guaros to the win.
Shavon Shields had 16 points and 7 rebounds for Fraport which won the FIBA Europe Cup, but finished third in last season’s German league and will compete in this season’s FIBA Champions league.
