The FIBA Europe Finals home-and-away series started on Wednesday with Sassari defeating Wurzburg, 89-84, at home. Rashawn Thomas with 27 points paved the way for the Italian side. The 24-year-old American forward made 9/17 from the field including four threes, also grabbed 11 rebounds en route for the game-high 31 efficiency performance.

The jam-packed Palaserradimigni helped the hosts overcome a rough first half and 19 lead changes to gain a slim advantage ahead of the return leg at Germany. The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi alumni was the man of the match, but four of his teammates also scored in double-digits.

Wurzburg’s Xavier Cooks and Cameron Wells dropped the last six points of the contest to finish the game with 22 and 19 points, respectively. Devin Oliver followed with 17 points to his name.

The second and deciding game will be played on May 1st.
