There couldn’t be a better start to the 2024-25 season for Unicaja Malaga, which rolled past its first opponents in this year’s FIBA Intercontinental Cup played in Singapore.
After crushing the African champs of Pedro de Luanda in the competition’s opening day, Ibon Navarro’s team went 2-0 in back-to-back fashion by getting a 37-point win (96-59) over Basketball Champions League Asia reigning winners of Al Riyadi Beirut. With this victory, they reached the final.
Kendrick Perry led the reigning Basketball Champions League champions in scoring with 17 points, followed by the sharpshooting specialist Tyler Kalinoski with 13 points over 3/7 from deep. The newest team’s center Tyson Perez went close to a double-double at 10 points and 7 rebounds.
For the Lebanese team, the 36-year-old center Elmedin Kikanovic powered up with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Al Riyadi’s show-stealer and Lebanon’s superstar Wael Arakji had better games, ending with only 11 points for his side.
Earlier in the day, it was registered an Oceanian success over the South American representatives. In their debut in the competition, the Tasmania JackJumpers rolled past Quimsa, making their presence felt.
